Eura Lewis Scholarship Established

The Middleburg Library Advisory Board has established the Eura Lewis Memorial Scholarship in memory of Eura Lee Hudgins Lewis, who served on the advisory board for many years.

Eura Lewis was a longtime Middleburg resident who placed great value on education. After graduating high school she attended Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Eura taught at Rectortown No. 12, Northwestern Elementary School (now Claude Thompson Elementary School), and Coleman Elementary School.

She was extremely active in her church and community and served on many missions and boards. She was the first Black woman to be elected to the Middleburg Town Council, where she served for many years. While running for local office her slogan was “Making a Difference,” and everything she was involved in centered on that theme.

The Middleburg Library Advisory Board has established a needs-based scholarship in her honor for a Middleburg area student to attend a local community college. The Board will select one winner per year, with the application process to begin in the spring of 2023.
